You always hear the stories about houses burning down from Christmas tree lights, or clothes dryers, but you always think that it won't happen to you. I thought that until today.
Just like every other time I do laundry, I load up the washer put in a load and leave. When it's done I move it to the dryer and again, I leave to do other stuff. Sometimes I even leave the house with the dryer running. I'm sure most of you do this also.
there are an estimated annual 15,500 fires, 10 deaths and 10 injuries due to clothes dryer fires

A couple people have asked me how I made my background on Twitter.com/mattdunlap and Activerain... I also use that background on Youtube but hardly use the my Youtube account, except for videos of my baby.
I wanted to make a background that looked like a top down view of a desktop. On the desktop are things that I think best represent me, like a laptop, smartphone, baby pictures, and my wife. I also through on some trinkets like a pencil (I like pencils over pens), Crayons (I used to eat them as a kid), and a penny (my life savings)...

Search engine optimization is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic via the search engines. You will often hear me say that SEO for your website is “Set it and forget it”. I’ve have readers tell me that approach is not good, you have to stay on top of SEO for it to be effective.
I totally agree that you have to stay on top of you traffic generating tasks, but there are only about 5 tasks that you need to do with your website to set it up for 100% solid SEO. Meaning, once you set up... |

While I don't recommend using this technique for all photos of a listing, it does make a very cool effect. I would use this effect on the postcards or flyers that you SHOULD mail to all the neighbors around the home for sale.
The effect is called tilt-shifting, or swing and tilt. It makes real time images look like tiny minature models. Sort of like a model train set. The effect works really well when you can shoot down on your subjects.
Yesterday I was taking pictures of my wifes listing, which was high on a hill overlooking the San Francisco Bay.... |

This is a guest post from Doug Lazovick:
Are you a real estate professional? Do you use twitter to post your real estate blog and other relevant real estate news? Then you should know about DeedStreet.
DeedStreet, using twitter as a content platform, is a social media tool that aggregates Real Estate specific tweets. How it works is simple. First, you log-in to DeedStreet with your twitter account. Then, start tagging your real estate related tweets with the caret “^” symbol.
In essence, the caret symbol is the real estate hashtag; we used the caret symbol because it reminded us of a roof of a... |

I think most people want to monitor their website, and truly run their online presence as a business, but take one look at Google analytics and get totally overwhelmed. I completely understand how Google analytics can seem like a monster, but if you break it down and look to it as small sections it’s not that bad.
Here is a quick tutorial I made for setting up a custom report that will show what keywords people use in the Google search engine to find my website. I make the custom report and then set up an email schedule to email me... |

Did you imagine yourself in a coffee shop, checking your listings while listening to music, while tweeting, while... nevermind the iPad does multitask!
Realtors don't need to multitask, right????
That is just one of the many letdowns today. I also made a sandwich today, but forgot to eat it... the iPad launch was much worse though.
It would have been really cool if...
If the iPad had a camera. You could take picture on the go, email them or tweet them. One rumour said you would be able to use hand jestures to control the tablet.
If the iPad could share files with your other... |

How to set up a simple custom report showing search keywords in Google analytics
This post is in response to another blog post I read on AR about Google Analytics. Brian Anderson wrote a good post about using filters to discover more meaningful data and website visitor trends.

Houses are pretty much built the same way they were a few decades ago. Small changes have been made along the way to make home last longer or be more efficient. What does the future hold for our most prized possessions?
I just got Popular Mechanics (my favorite magazine) in the mail. The featured story is about improving the countries infrastructure, but many of the concepts will surely make there way into our homes. Energy savings, of course, is the biggest challenge. There are many companies that are pushing to power homes with little outside help, and even allow the homeowner... |

Google is the search engine that we all try to impress. We live by their every move, and good reason, they dominate the search engines.
What makes Google so dominate is that they return the best results. Bing.com has been in the news lately about providing better, more relevant results, yet, nobody has really made the move to Bing.
Anyone else find it funny that new English phrases like "Google it" or "bing it" have made their way into our culture, yet Yahoo, which has been around for a long, long time, never got included. I've never said "Yahoo it". Poor Yahoo ;(
